Vasyl Lomachenko is widely regarded as one of the most accomplished and technically skilled boxers in the history of amateur boxing. Holding a record of 396 victories out of 397 fights, he avenged his only defeat by defeating the same opponent twice. Transitioning to the professional ranks, Loma had a clear goal in mind—to break records and establish himself as one of the greatest boxers of all time. As a multiple weight class champion, he replicated a record set 39 years prior, becoming the second boxer to capture a world title in his third professional fight in 2014. He further cemented his legacy by achieving the fastest world title wins in the second weight class (7th fight) and the third weight class (12th fight).

In 2019, the loss of his titles led Lomachenko on a path of rediscovery. Despite his incredible boxing skills, the champion sensed something was missing—a quest for inner peace that had long eluded him. It was then that he turned to his Orthodox faith, which he had kept hidden for too long.

He made a triumphant return, defeating Masayoshi Nakatani by referee's stoppage in the 9th round, and six months later, Lomachenko affirmed his resurgence with a masterful victory by unanimous decision against former world champion Richard Commey.

On May 20, 2023, he faced one of the greatest challenges of his career: Devin Haney. Humility, patience and compassion - three virtues that taught Lomachenko to shed his ego and focus on inner peace. Despite unprecedented technical prowess, unparalleled elegance and uncommon hustle, Lomachenko bowed out. The decision was taken by the judges following a very balanced bout. This defeat is not really a defeat, but rather a reminder of the cruelty of this magnificent sport, which is played out in detail and on the perception of each individual.
